Adviye Bal
Adviye Bal, born in Mersin in 1963, graduated from the Department of Geography at Atatürk University in 1984. She later completed her art education in 2004 at the Painting Education Department of Marmara University, directing her practice toward both painting and sculpture.
Beginning her artistic journey at an early age, Bal held her first solo exhibition at the age of 16 and received an award in the Adana Directorate of National Education Painting Competition in 1992. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
The artist brings together painting and sculpture within a multidisciplinary practice. In her works, she explores the inner world of the individual, emotional states, and existential inquiries through figurative and abstract elements, using tactile and layered surfaces.
Themes of time, memory, and inner transformation stand out in her work. Her exhibitions “Sırdaş” and “Zamansız / Timeless” are among the significant examples of this approach.
Bal continues her work in her studios in Istanbul and Bolu, and is recognized as one of the notable artists in contemporary art with her distinctive language.
Her approach can be summarized in her own words:
“For me, art is a form of resistance against existence.”
