Alev Özas

Alev Özas, born in Istanbul in 1977, graduated in 2002 from the Painting Education Department of Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts. During her education, she worked in the studio of Ramiz Aydın, focusing on color, harmony, and tachisme.

Between 2005 and 2012, the artist worked as chief assistant in the studio of Devrim Erbil, where she combined the technical and compositional knowledge she gained with her own style, developing a contemporary visual language.

Her practice is based on a colorist and painterly (stain-oriented) approach. In particular, in her Istanbul landscapes, she treats the city as an atmosphere shaped by light, time, and emotion; through intense color harmonies and layered surfaces, she makes visible the emotional relationship established with the city.

Since 2002, she has participated in more than 60 group exhibitions and held over 10 solo exhibitions. Her work titled “Dev Istanbul,” produced in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic, stands out among her notable projects.

Working primarily with oil on canvas, Özas combines post-impressionist influences with a tachist approach and a strong sense of contour.
