Emrah Yücel
Emrah Yücel, born in Bartın in 1981, completed his undergraduate education at Anadolu University and his master’s degree in the Graphic Design Department at the Institute of Social Sciences of Haliç University. His interest in calligraphy deepened when he discovered that writing is not merely composed of letters, but that the relationships of form and shape found in painting also exist within calligraphy.
Having had the opportunity to work with leading international calligraphy artists, Yücel developed a distinctive language of expression by bringing these experiences into the art platforms of Turkey. In line with this approach, he defines himself as a “writing painter.”
The artist is a member of The International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting and holds a calligraphy diploma awarded by The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society (CLAS). He has participated in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions.
Yücel continues his work in his studio in Balat, Istanbul, reinterpreting calligraphy as a contemporary field of expression through the use of paper and pen.
