Ertuğrul Ateş

Ertuğrul Ateş, born in Ankara in 1954, graduated from the Painting Education Department of Gazi University Faculty of Education. In the 1980s, he moved to the United States, where he continues his artistic production with an international perspective.

Ateş’s art is built upon a distinctive language that brings together Eastern and Western aesthetics. In his works, themes such as nature, the universe, humanity, and existence are expressed through symbolic imagery, organic forms, and dense layers of color. Light, energy, and cosmic movement are fundamental elements of his compositions.

For the artist, the canvas is not merely a surface, but also a field of spiritual and intellectual exploration. His use of layered paint and fluid stains offers the viewer an intuitive and timeless experience.

Having participated in numerous international exhibitions, Ateş is among the important figures representing contemporary Turkish painting on the global stage.
