Leyla Kara
Leyla Kara, born in Malatya in 1985, graduated from the Painting Department of İnönü University Faculty of Fine Arts. Strengthening her academic foundation with a strong command of drawing, she has become one of the prominent figures of figurative expressionism in contemporary Turkish painting.
Her practice combines a drawing-based approach with a colorist and painterly (stain-based) language. Strong brushstrokes, contrasting colors, and dramatic use of light and shadow transform the figure into a carrier of emotional and psychological expression.
The relationship between human and space holds a central place in her work. Through female figures and introspective portraits in particular, she renders the unseen emotional states of the individual visible, while constructing space as an atmospheric field that complements the figure’s emotional condition.
Working with oil paint, acrylic, and mixed media, the artist has participated in numerous national exhibitions and workshops. Through her expressionist language built on color and form, she invites the viewer into the inner journey of the individual.
In the artist’s own words:
“I hold my brush as a mirror to the unseen emotional states of the human soul.”
Leyla Kara creates a distinctive field of expression in contemporary art through her powerful language centered on figure and color.
