Malik Bulut
Born in Silifke in 1974, Malik Bulut graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mersin University in 2000. Following his graduation, he developed his artistic practice by working as an assistant to sculptor Mehmet Aksoy from 2000 to 2004. Since 2004, he has continued his work in his studio in Istanbul.
The artist's work is distinguished by its unique sculptural language, particularly developed using marble. Bulut treats marble not merely as a material, but as a living structure that interacts with light, movement, and time. By transforming hard stone surfaces into fluid forms, he creates both a physical and poetic effect.
Throughout his career, the artist has participated in 23 international symposiums and held more than 18 solo exhibitions; he has been featured in important fairs such as Contemporary Istanbul, SOFA New York, and SOFA Chicago. His works are in various museums and collections in Turkey and the USA, and monumental sculptures in public spaces constitute a significant part of his artistic output.
Bulut, who has won various awards, including the First Prize in the 1999 Çukurova University Sculpture Competition, has also brought art into the social sphere through workshops he conducted with the Creative Children's Association.
The artist's approach is summarized by these words:
“Revealing the form hidden within the stone is a dialogue I establish with it.”
Malik Bulut has carved out a unique place in contemporary Turkish sculpture with his strong relationship with marble and his monumental works.
