Mustafa Horasan
Born in 1965 in Istanbul, Mustafa Horasan is one of the distinctive figures of contemporary Turkish painting. A graduate of the Painting Department at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, the artist has drawn attention with his works since the 1990s.
Horasan’s art is built upon a powerful visual language that pushes the boundaries of figurative expression. In his works, the human body is not merely a physical form, but a carrier of psychological tensions, social pressures, and existential inquiries. Deformed figures, exaggerated expressions, and at times a grotesque aesthetic constitute the fundamental elements of his visual world.
Themes such as loneliness, alienation, and the search for identity come to the forefront in his works. The distortion of figures transforms into a strong means of expression, reflecting human fragility and inner conflict, and inviting the viewer into a direct confrontation.
Throughout his career, the artist has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions; his works have been exhibited both in Turkey and internationally, and have entered important collections.
Horasan’s paintings carry both physical and emotional intensity through layered paint application, a rich color palette, and a figurative approach open to deformation.
In the artist’s own words, summarizing his approach:
“I see the human body as the carrier of the soul. In my paintings, I try to reveal not what is seen, but what is felt.”
