Orhan Umut
Orhan Umut, born in Diyarbakır in 1972, graduated from the Painting Department of Dokuz Eylül University. While maintaining an academic foundation in his art education, the artist continues to develop his practice alongside his postgraduate studies.
Umut’s work is based on the relationship between figurative expression and urban/public space. In his works, he addresses the dynamic interaction between the individual, society, and space, while questioning the aesthetic and sociopolitical transformation of the public sphere. This approach brings both visual and conceptual depth to his practice.
Advancing through themes such as modern life, urbanization, and identity, his paintings place the relationship between figure and space at their core, inviting the viewer into an intellectual experience.
Having held more than fifty solo exhibitions and received numerous awards, Umut’s works are included in museum and private collections.
In the artist’s own words:
“I approach public space as a living structure in constant interaction with individual identity.”
