Rukiye Gedik

Rukiye Gedik, born in Istanbul, studied in the Department of Plastic Arts and Painting at Yeditepe University. Developing her artistic practice from an early age, she has combined her academic background with long-term individual production to form a distinctive visual language.

Bringing her experience in textile, design, and corporate fields into her art, Gedik adopts an interdisciplinary approach that merges painting and design. The brand Rookisch Atelier, which she founded in 2019, constitutes an important field of production that connects her work with everyday life.

Her art is based on figurative expression and is shaped particularly through characteristic portraits focused on faces and eyes. Through figures open to deformation, she addresses the inner world of the individual, emotions, and social reflections with an expressionist language.

Working with acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media, the artist has recently turned toward large-scale canvases and murals. Female figures and character-based narratives hold a central place in her work.

Continuing her work in her Istanbul studio, Gedik develops a practice centered on individuality through her figurative expressionist language.
