Sanem Tufan
Sanem Tufan, born in Karabük in 1984, graduated in 2011 from the Sculpture Department of Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts. After graduation, she worked at the Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality art workshops; later, while serving as a research assistant at Atatürk University, she completed her master’s degree. She is currently continuing her proficiency in art (doctorate in art) studies at Marmara University.
Tufan’s artistic practice is built upon a linear and spatial language developed through metal. Centering the act of “drawing,” she carries the two-dimensional line into three-dimensional space, blurring the boundaries between line and form.
In her works, the line exists not merely as a tool but as the image itself. Her sculptures, shaped through their relationship with space, create permeable and multilayered structures.
Themes of nature, human, and memory hold an important place in her production. Traces of observation and experience transform into a personal and temporal narrative in her works.
Having participated in various exhibitions and symposiums both nationally and internationally, the artist continues her work in her studio in Beykoz, Istanbul.
Her approach can be summarized in her own words:
“For me, the line is both the beginning and the end.”
