Yakut Kalkavan
Yakut Kalkavan began her art education at the age of seven at the Atatürk Education Institute under the guidance of Cuma Ocaklı. This early discipline became the foundation of her artistic understanding. Although she was accepted into the Painting Department of Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, she chose to continue her education in the studio of Prof. Ramiz Aydın, where she worked as an assistant for many years, developing her artistic language.
Throughout her career, Kalkavan has participated in numerous exhibitions, fairs, and festivals, while also producing site-specific art and design projects. Her works, realized both in Turkey and abroad, have strengthened her interdisciplinary approach.
In her works, the relationship between form, surface, and space comes to the forefront. Her expressive language, built through color and texture, aims to establish a direct connection with the viewer. The artist continues her practice in her studio in Kalamış, Istanbul.
“For me, art is an ongoing process. Each work marks the beginning of a new exploration. The relationship I establish with space and material creates a bridge between my inner world and the external world. What matters is the impact the work leaves on the viewer.”
